I've been struggling with this for a few days. At my company the Community Manager role is bound to Customer Support (not marketing). I think I've settled on Community and Customer Relations Manager. Not super awesome but better than Community Manager.

Hey,

I believe you live pretty close to me in Austin and I saw you are from the midwest. I live on parmer one street over from Avery ranch, on brushy creek. Let me know if you might want to get lunch sometime. You seem pretty cool. Oh, and I love the ninja. Haha

Community Success Manager is one of my all-time favorites. And I've actually seen the "producer" title used quite often for people who don't really "produce" all that much. Years ago that title was usually reserved strictly for content managers or publishers, but it's thrown around a lot more freely these days.

Instead of being just a community manager (your position), you were being you. I think it's when we bring our real selves to a job (our heart, mind and instinct) and think about our members, customers, and guests as real people too, that we end up always doing the right thing for them and for our company, whether we plan it that way or not. Call it what you will, the golden rule, good karma, pay it forward -- it's all about being real and taking the time to care. What a great story, a great reminder, thanks for sharing it.

Hi Kris,

thanks for the Link to my post!

In this case, Poken S.A. approached me after my blog post and they are now in contact with several voluntary (but professional) Community Managers to build a network to handle and channel the communication.

So, yeah. I wished more companies would do the smart thing and build a dialogue with their customers.

I have to concede. You are right that some people will drop you if you don't follow back. My argument goes into the quality vs. quantity realm.
